Aynia's story - written by Art Foxx
Midday sun flitted through the trees casting long shadows on the ground and surrounding foliage of the dense forest. Birds chirp and the sounds of different animals can be heard making the forest come alive.

Another sound can also be heard, soft humming coming from a large oak tree near the center of the forest. At its base sits a young girl, the source of the humming. On closer look it is apparent that this girl is no normal girl.

She wears a long, flowing, white dress splattered with varying pastel rainbow colors. Her loose hair falls gently in cascades down her back fading from a lovely deep scarlet into deep inky ebony. White feathered wings sprinkled with multicolors rest folded against her back. A soft glow seems to be emitting from her body as she rests against the tree.

Several vines, flowers and other organic things adorn her body. Surrounding her are several ghostly creatures, some resemble plants while others resemble animals of some sort. Their translucency adding to the glow that already surrounds this girl.

Aynia smiles softly to herself as she hums, her bright golden eyes dance merrily as she looks around the gathered spirits. Being the Keeper of something so magical already always made her smile. She adored her job and loved her forest friends.

Her song slowly comes to an end and she slowly shifts herself a little, glancing up to the sky to see what time of day it was by the position of the sun. She knew soon it would be time for the night time Spirits of the forest to start appearing and that meant she'd soon have to bid adieu to her day time ones. She gives her friends a soft smile her golden eyes glistening in the waning sun.

"It seems we have just enough time for one more song, my friends."

She says giggling a little at the odd sounds the Spirits seem to make in happiness at her words. This time instead of humming she began to sing a lively little song about the sun and moon coming out. Most of the Spirits seemed to perk at the merry song and started to hum their own strange sounds to the melody.

A sudden crashing sound though brought the merriment to an end. The sudden sound startles most of the Spirits making them either duck into holes in the trees or to curl in on themselves if they can.

Aynia looks up her golden eyes flashing in surprise and fright at what had caused the noise. Her heart lurching into her chest at what she saw.

Before her lay a huge creature, it's body a translucent white, blue color. Its form that of a large deer with different water plants hanging from its antlers, several shells and stones make up the ruff of the neck. It looks up at her with misty white eyes and makes an odd pained noise.

Aynia leans down beside the creature gently supporting its head and gently brushing some of the tangled vegetation from its head.

"Your safe now, poor thing."

She says quietly in a soothing voice, her eyes softening and she can feel tears prickling on the edges of her eyes as she does.

"You are the spirit of the great river of the forest are you not?"

She asks gently as the creature makes another noise and slightly nods its head in answer. Its eyes closing in pain as it does, shuddering a little as it does.

"I thought so, what has happened to you Great Spirit?"

She asks quietly, it is then that she is struck by an over powering smell. The scent of decay and poison filling her nose and making her cover her mouth a little. The Spirit only looks up at her his eyes showing what she already knows.

"Pollution.."

She says the word with dread as she notices the gray green area along the hind leg of the creature, clearly the area that was causing the creature to suffer. Feeling more tears coming to her eyes she gently shakes her head and leans against the great creature. Composing herself she takes a deep breath and looks at the creature in the eye.

"I think I can help...if you'll allow me."

She says quietly, she felt her heart thudding her in chest as she gulps a little. Young she maybe she knew she had to help this spirit, for without it the river that fed life to the rest of the forest would die and in return kill the rest of the things she loved and protected.

The river spirit only looks up at her his eyes telling her that he was willing to allow her to do whatever was needed. She gives him a shaky smile before moving over to his injured leg, she takes a deep breath, trying to ignore the lingering smell that was coming off the polluted area.

Gently she places her hands over the affected area and closes her eyes concentrating. Slowly a white light begins to be emitted from her hands. The Spirit lets out a pained cry as the light begins to push into its leg. So in concentration Aynia doesn't even look up, instead she only concentrates harder as the creature struggles against the pain.

Slowly the light begins to intensify, Aynia can feel the poison from the pollution slowly becoming less and less, and the smell beginning to fade as well. The creature's wild thrashing also begins to subside. Soon the light from her hands slowly fades.

Gasping a bit to regain her breath from the exertion Aynia slowly falls back on to her backside. She blinks several times a little dazed from her sudden deed. She's brought out of the semi trance by the low rumbling purr that she could hear.

She blinks several times as the Great River Spirit slowly turns its head to look at her, his glow returning and his white eyes shining brightly. She smiles a little as she catches her breath.

"You are very welcome, I'm glad I could help."

She says with a soft giggle as the creature gently leans over and places his massive head in her lap and lets out another of the loud rumbles. She gently rubs between his antlers before allowing him to stand and flex his newly purified leg.

He turns again to face her and gives her a small nod in thanks to which she returns before he slowly turns and begins to make his way back into the forest towards his watery home.

Aynia gives a small wave and grin as she watches him fade into the trees. A sudden weight on her shoulders makes her jump and she turns to look at the little Fox Spirit that was her constant companion that had now leapt on to her shoulders.

She chuckles a little at it before gently petting between its ears.

"So now that I've saved the forest, I guess you want another song?"

She asks with a small shake of her head as she starts to sing, the sun dipping down behind the trees as the Night Forest Spirits start to make their way towards her voice.
