Annabeth's story - written by Dee
The sun was just peeking out behind the clouds, the rain having stopped just minutes before. The air was moist and chilly, the perfect weather for fire to play safely. A small Keeper rushed out of a modest size hut, her red eyes gleaming. Her long black hair was loose, the streaks of color glinting in the sunlight. Small demon wings were folded along her back and she carried a small staff whose top curled. Her black dress fluttered around her feet as she ran to the center of a large circle.

Glyphs were craved into the ground, spelling out protection and health. She hopped into the circle, her father's words echoing strongly in her mind. "Remember, Annabeth, do not play with the spirits outside of the circle. You have a strong talent, but you can't control it completely. The circle will protect you and the spirits. Promise me you will never leave it."

She had never broken that promise and her powers were growing. Now as she stood in the circle, she wondered what would happen if she left it. Pushing that thought aside, she lowered her staff to one of the glyphs. She and the staff began to glow a soft red. She chanted softly and watched as a portal open. Through it she could see the spirits. Animal, guardian, flora, elemental, they were all there for her to see. For now she watched, knowing that one day it would be her duty to help them whenever they needed it.

For hours she watched, learning about them, absorbing everything she saw. She watched wind spirits chase clouds, fire spirits dive in and out of seething volcanoes. Animal spirits frolicked merrily and the spirits of guardians roamed the earth, seeking and searching. Annabeth sighed. It was the guardian spirits that made her sad. There was nothing she could do for them other than offer advice and she was too young to do that yet.

A sniffling noise caught her attention and she focused on it, drawing a image of a tiny water spirit in the form of a seal to the forefront of the portal. It was trapped on land, far from the sea. It was hurting. Her heart ached for it. Without even thinking, she stepped through the portal, transporting herself to the spirit. When it saw her, it jumped.

"Easy, little one. I'm here to help you," Annabeth whispered, opening her arms to the spirit. "I am Annabeth, Keeper of Spirits and I'll see to it you get home."

The seal like spirit hesitated, cocking it's head to the side. Glowing blue eyes studied her and Annabeth felt as if she was being judged. She kept a warm smile on her face and continued to hold out her arms, even though her arms were beginning to ache from being in one position for so long. Then, without warning, the spirit jumped into her arms. She giggled when the spirit pressed it's cold nose to her neck. "That's right, I'll take you home where you are safe."

She opened another portal that led to the ocean and carried the spirit through. There more spirits were waiting, anxious, searching for their baby. Annabeth returned the baby spirit to it's parents and stepped back. For the first time she learned her powers, she felt accomplished. Finally she was doing what she had been made to do.
