Eclipse's story - written by Tevie
Eclipse turned her face towards the sun and gave a contented sigh. She could feel the warmth on her face, infusing her body. She loved the sun, the light, even if she couldn't see it. She hadn't been born blind but might as well have been. A fight between her mothers when she was still in diapers robbed her eyes forever of sight. All the same sight or no sight she still loved the light.

Sun beam walked towards her daughter a sad little on her face. "The sun's setting, it is time to come in now."

"Just a little longer. Just until it completely sets. I can find my way in the dark."

"I know you can, but your not the only thing that can and your so young."

"I am almost a keeper! Besides nothing dangerous ever happens here, you worry to much."

Sun Beam gave a small chuckle, "Just a little longer but I want you home before full dark."

Eclipse grumbled to herself about her worry-wort mother and sprawled out, on the ground, on her back, soaking in the setting suns rays. The grasshoppers began to play their little song as if to bid the sun farewell and the day birds all flew back to their nest carefully tucking themselves in before the final rays disappeared. Eclipse sighed, she'd put off heading home as long as she could as it was she'd just make it. She brushed off her skirt and headed along the familiar path home cutting through the woods.

She'd traveled this path hundreds of times and knew ever rock, every branch, every dip on the path it was all so very memorized and very dull. She wished just once for a little variety, something unexpected. Perhaps that's why when she heard the strange howling cries of something a little deeper into the forest she decided to follow it. Over a fallen tree, through bushes that tugged at the fabric of her dress and tore the fabric, nothing would dissuade her. The sun had fully set by the time she'd come close to the howling.

Now closer to the sound she recognized it for what it was. "You are a Kutan aren't you, a baby Kutan!" Eclipse got down on all fours, feeling out in front of her as she slowly made her way towards the Kutan's cries. The Kutan stretched out it's neck, nuzzling one of Eclipse hands. "You poor thing, your shaking." Eclipse crawled next to it and sat down, petting the Kutan who curled up into her lap shaking.

"What's the matter baby?" The Kutan cried and shook, it's distress plain to feel and growing greater as the world grew even darker. It wasn't until Eclipse herself started shivering from the temperature change that she even remembered about darkness and many children being afraid of it. "Is it the dark? It's ok don't worry you have me and I can assure you there's nothing in the dark that's not there in the day." Eclipse began humming a tune she remembered her mother used to do when she was afraid and stroked the baby's head as she hummed she swayed gently back and forth and slowly relaxed her body. Like a sponge releasing water, she released the light she'd been soaking up all day. Just enough to keep a steady glow around them. Enough to keep the darkness at bay. The Kutan shivering stopped and it's cries settled down, before long it was asleep in her lap.

"Mother is so going to ground me for this." She mumbled to herself but it was worth it. She got to help something. She wondered absently if her mom would let her keep the baby as a pet. Guess she'd find out soon enough. She was pretty sure she heard her mother coming and with the light she was releasing it wouldn't take her long to find her.
